Gregorian Chant Studies

(Editor of chant for the Office of Vespers for Westminster Cathedral Choir)
Discover the profound beauty and infinite variety of this timeless music by learning to sing it.
Study will include square notation, pre-stave neumes, interpretation, music for the Mass, daily offices, music for special occasions, psalmody and texts in different languages.
Anyone able to sing in tune is welcome, with or without chant experience.
Cost: £5 per evening.
From 6.30 (after end of Mass) to 8 pm. Mondays:

Gregorian Chant for Advent
St Wulstan’s Church, Little Malvern, Worcestershire, over the weekend of 1st December.
Led by Iain Simcock, Director of the Schola Gregoriana
Saturday 1 December 2018:
11.30 am – 12.45 pm: Workshop on reading chant notation and its interpretation (using the chants for Advent)
2.30 pm – 3.45 pm: Vocal technique, Latin pronunciation (using the chants for Advent)
4.30pm – 5.30 pm: Rehearsal of the chants for First Vespers of Advent and Mass for the 1st Sunday in Advent
6pm: Sung First Vespers of Advent
For those willing and able to remain in the area overnight:
Sunday 2nd December – (Dominica prima Adventus):
9 am – 10 am: Rehearsal of the Gregorian chant for Mass for the First Sunday in Advent
10.30 am – 11.30 am: Sung Mass for the First Sunday in Advent
Coffee (provided) and conclusion

Saturday 29 September:
Chant Day at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Norwich.
10.30 am onwards: registration and coffee
11.00: Introduction to the Graduale Parvum, and first chant session
12.30 pm: Lunch. This must be booked in advance
1.30: Second chant session, in preparation for
2.30: Sung Mass for the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels
3.45: Paul Henriksen will speak on Latin and singing in schools
4.15: Tea and the Association’s Annual General Meeting, with the day concluding by 5.30 pm.
