Mgr Antony Conlon
The Latin Mass Society reported the death of Mgr Conlon at a nursing home in Reading on Sunday 19 April 2020. Mgr Conlon will be fondly remembered by many Associates of Schola Gregoriana in his role as National Chaplain to the LMS for whom he celebrated countless Masses in London and the south east. He was also a Chaplain to the Knights of Malta.
Fr Antony was ordained by Cardinal Hume in May 1979 and served in parishes in the Diocese of Westminster (St Mary’s, Chelsea and St Joseph’s Bunhill Row) before becoming Chaplain to the Oratory School, at Woodcote, where he remained for 13 years. On retirement from the School, he continued his ministry in the Birmingham Archdiocese and became Parish Priest of nearby Goring on Thames.
I used to meet him from time to time at Westminster Cathedral and years later we were both fortunate to be at the Abbey of Le Barroux for Holy Week. Fr Antony was a fluent linguist in Spanish, Italian and French and an impressive preacher who understood the supreme importance of the Chant in the liturgy of the Church. He will be greatly missed.
