By courtesy of the Parish Priest and Parish a Gregorian Chant Day will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Wimbledon on Saturday 1 November 2025, from 10.45 a.m to 6.10 p.m., culminating in the singing of 1st Vespers of All Saints, before
the 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass.
During the Chant Day the ancient chants of the Church will be rehearsed and explored both historically and musically, considering aspects of modality and stylistic interpretation. This repertoire is uniquely adapted to the participation of
beginners as well as to more experienced singers. All music will be provided.
The Chant Day will be conducted by Iain Simcock, Director of the Schola. Iain is one of the foremost authorities on performing Gregorian chant in this country. He was for seven years Assistant Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral. He was subsequently organist at the Abbey of Saint Pierre in Solesmes while continuing a solo freelance career. He maintains his connection with the Abbey of Solesmes and the Benedictines of the Abbey of S. Madeleine at Le Barroux.
Refreshments
Tea and coffee will be provided. Those attending will need to bring their own packed lunches.

Sacred Heart Church, Edge Hill, Wimbledon, London SW19 4LU. Nearest Tube: Wimbledon. Nearest overground station: Wimbledon, with frequent bus services 57, 131 and 200 from those stations to Edge Hill. Limited parking is available at the church. Please ensure that you have registered your vehicle at the church on arrival, to avoid a fine.
Cost
The Schola needs to cover costs for the event, so we ask for a contribution of £20. But we are more interested in your singing contribution than your financial! If the cost might be a deciding factor for you, please send us a short explanatory note (e.g. on student loan).
